The orange and pale green patches on an older tile roof are lichen. Concrete is alkaline, and the lichens that favour lime grow on concrete roof tiles for the same reason they grow on mortar. Their growth depends on climate, shade, surface texture and what the surface is made of, so a concrete-tile roof under trees tends to carry more than one standing in open sun. Metal is a different job. Sheet roofs are maintained by hosing and brushing with a soft bristle brush, not by waterblasting, and lichen and moss build up on metal roofs as well as on tiles. A quote that proposes a high-pressure wash on a metal roof is proposing the wrong method, and it is worth asking why.
