Pressure Cleaning around Terrigal
Council's lagoon floodplain study notes that a number of properties around Terrigal Lagoon are very low-lying and that flooding has damaged property in the past, which is why Council opens the lagoon entrance mechanically when the water approaches a critical level. In 2016, Council records, waves washed through the entrance and flooded lakeside properties.
The beachfront is engineered. A seawall was in place at Terrigal by the early 1940s, and the sandstone block wall along the beach was built in 1999. Salt spray from the surf lands on the homes closest to it, and on metal gutters, fixings and roofing that is a reason to rinse more often, with a hose rather than a pressure cleaner on the metal.
Permits and Central Coast Council rules
Terrigal Lagoon is surrounded by the suburbs of Terrigal and Wamberal, and Terrigal meets its north and west arms. Coastal lagoons flush very little, so what drains into them tends to stay, and Council's coastal management work names urban stormwater as a key stressor on them. Wash water hosed into a Terrigal street drain can finish in that lagoon, and under section 120 of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW) letting polluting matter into a drain can be an offence.
